If you haven’t got to where you really want to be in life, the most likely reason is you are living another person’s dream.
Somewhere inside you there is a tiny seed of the ‘you‘ that you were meant to be. That seed was planted inside you at birth. Unfortunately this seed never fully grew in to the ‘you‘ you were meant to be. It was overwhelmed by what you were told by your teachers, parents and other role models as you grew up.
When you were a baby you knew exactly what you wanted. When you were hungry, you cried until you were fed. If you didn’t like the food, you spat it out. If you did like it, you ate it like it was your last meal.
You didn’t have any trouble letting people know what you wanted.
So why are you living another person’s dream?
Well, as you grew up you were told lots of things that stopped your seed from growing. Some of the things you might have been told were:
- Don’t touch that
- Keep away from that
- Eat everything on your plate
- You don’t really want that
- You should be ashamed of yourself
- Stop crying.
- Don’t be a big baby.
- You can’t have everything you want
- Money doesn’t grow on trees
- Stop being so selfish.
After years of hearing these negative sort of things, you eventually lost touch with your seed and your dreams. Somehow, you got stuck trying to please other people and living their dream, not yours. You learned how to behave to get their approval. You did a lot of things you did not really want to do, but did them to please others. For example you might of:
- studied a course because that is what our parents wanted you to do
- got married because it was the right thing to do
- got a ‘real job’ instead of flowing your passion.
You did what you thought was the sensible thing to do, to please others, and suppressed your dreams. When you were growing up you were told ‘you should do this’, ‘you ought to do that’ and ‘you had better do that or else’ too many times which suffocated your dreams. That is how you ended up living another person’s dream.
So how do you reclaim your dream?
To reclaim your dream you need to know three things:
[a] what your dream is, [b] where you are and [c] where you want to get to.
It is as simple as that.
To make sure your dream makes you really happy, it should give you seven things:
4. Health and fitness
6. Personal goals
7. Contribution to society.
Success is making your dream happen. So whatever your dream is make sure it covers these seven areas. If it doesn’t then tweak it until it does so you can be truly happy.
Successful people see the world as a place where they can make amazing dreams happen. They believe any dream is possible. They believe they can of make their dream happen. No one can stop them.
So when you have perfected your dream, don’t let anyone talk you out of it. There are plenty of people who will try to talk you out of it. People will say you are crazy and it can’t be done. These people are ‘dream stealers’. Don’t listen to them.
Follow your dream with every part of you, until you reach your destination and make your dream a reality.
