Wild Camping Bleaklow Stones – Peak District

It was supposed to be summer for my wild camping Bleaklow Stones adventure! But it was nearly a washout.

There was nearly constant rain, and then occasionally the sun would shine for a brief moment.

The weather really couldn’t make its mind up.

At one point I did think I might have to give the wild camp a miss if the rain didn’t stop.

But I wanted an opportunity to try out a new short lightweight Vango sleeping pad, which was pushed to its limit as the temperature got down to about 6 degrees Celsius overnight.

I was a little cold but not too uncomfortable. I reckon temperatures about 10 degrees Celsius would be ok, any lower it would struggle as it only has an R-value of 1.

I’m glad I didn’t bail, as it turned out to be a glorious night and it just goes to show that you have to keep going to get the rewards in life.

I used my 3F UL Lanshan 1 lightweight tent which was more than enough for this wild camping bleaklow stones adventure.

Overall a great adventure for the mind and body.

Bleaklow Stones: Peak District’s Rugged Backbone

The Peak District, with its rolling hills and rugged moorlands, is a hiker’s paradise. But nestled amongst its heather and boggy patches lies a place with a wilder reputation: Bleaklow Stones.

Bleaklow Stones isn’t your typical beauty spot. It’s a sprawling, windswept plateau, the kind of place that earns its name. Geographically, it’s the Peak District’s highest point, a hulking mass of gritstone formed millions of years ago. Think of it as the park’s knobby backbone.

Bleaklow Stones offers a taste of wilderness. It’s a place to feel the wind whip through your hair, to conquer a challenging climb, and to be rewarded with panoramic views that stretch for miles.

This isn’t a stroll in the park. Be prepared for unpredictable weather, just as I experienced, pack for all conditions, and a map and compass (or a GPS, for the less adventurous).

If you’re up for the challenge, Bleaklow Stones offers a unique Peak District experience. It’s a chance to connect with nature in its rawest form, to create memories that will blow away the cobwebs (quite literally, sometimes).

So, lace up your boots, grab your waterproofs, and get ready to conquer the Peak District’s wild heart.

The Importance of Nature & Mental Health

As a hypnotherapist, I know how important being in nature is. Hiking and wild camping gives me an opportunity to disconnect from my busy life and reconnect with what is important – inner peace.

Sitting on a mountain, listening to nothing more than the sound of the wind and the birds (and occasional sheep!) is good for the soul.

This Lake District Wild Camping video is part of the Wainwright Challenge to hike all 214 of the Wainwrights in the Lake District, England.
